Herb Remington - "The Texas Playboy"
"AaHaa, here's that Remington Steel" - this "War Cry" can be heard on Bob Wills records between 1946 and 1949. Herbert Leroy Remington, born on June 9, 1926, in Meshawaka, Indiana was a regular member of the famous Texas Playboys in those years and is a living legend today. Together with other master musicians and swing experts like Eldon Shamblin (Guitar), Tiny Moore (Electric Mandolin) and Johnny Gimble (Fiddle) he really made the Playboys swing - just listen to the legendary recordings of "Fat Boy Rag", "Hometown Stomp" and "Twin Guitar Special"! Herb Remington is also the author of classic Steel Guitar Instrumentals like "Remington Ride" and "Boot Heel Drag".
Today Herb Remington resides in Houston, Texas and builds his own quality brand steel guitars. He is also still musically active and works in the studio, including recording sessions with musicians of the old Texas Playboy days and Asleep At The Wheel. In 1998 I had the honor to host Herb during his one week visit in Austria where he played live concerts with "Route 66", an Austrian Western Swing Formation, resulting in the production of a Live CD and a Video.
Herb Remington is a member of the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.
