Tommy Collins
Although Tommy Collins, along with Wynn Stewart, was one of the first to establish the distinctive "Bakersfield Sound" in the late 50's, he wasn't able to cash in on the Bakersfield craze of the mid 60's. By then, he had already quit the music business once and was mounting a marginally successful comeback. The songs he recorded for Columbia in the late 60's and early 70's were often re-recordings of his fifties hits like "What'cha Gonna Do Now", "I Got Mine" and "Smooth Sailing" or newly written novelty songs and ballads like "I Made The Prison Band", "General Delivery USA" and "There's No Girl In My Life Anymore" - all graced by the marvelous playing of Lloyd Green
