Jerry Lane was born in 1939 in Gorman, Texas and began songwriting at age fourteen. He was never too serious about it until he got a recording and writing contract with Chart records and Yonah Publishing in 1965. He started recording as a solo artist but also teamed up with a newcomer who was soon to become a famous country star - Lynn Anderson. Their single release "We're Different" was the first song that Lynn Anderson ever recorded. In total he released 10 singles and one album on Chart Records before moving back to Texas in 1972 abd recording for ABC until 1977.
Jerry has done equally well as a writer over the years, his songs have been recorded by artists like Webb Pierce, Charley Pride, Lynn Anderson, Jimmy Dean and George Strait ("Gone As A Girl Can Get").
