Joe Maphis

Joe Maphis was often referred to as the "Superpicker" - no matter if guitar (acoustic or electric), banjo, fiddle or mandolin, he played it with incredible virtuosity! Joe worked a lot in California in the 1950's, he appeared, together with his wife Rose Lee, on TV shwos like Town Hall Party and recorded for different small labels. He also was a good songwriter, one of his best remembered songs being "Dim Lights, Thick Smoke".

He recorded one album for Chart, featuring Lloyd Green, before signing with the new CMH label and recording more material in his distinctive mix of driving country and bluegrass.
