Don Williams

Don Williams, the "Gentle Giant" started a long string of top hits in the early 1970's after his first group, the Pozo Seco Singers had disbanded in 1971. Initially he signed a songwriter's contract with Jack Clement's Jack Music, but also started recording his own songs as we ll as material by contemporary writers like Bob McDill and Wayland Holyfield. He scored a few minor hits and had his major breakthrough with "We Should be Together" (#5) and first #1 hit "I Wouldn't Want To Live If You Didn't Love Me", both in 1974. followed by a total of 18 more #1 hits.

Lloyd Green can be heard on all of Williams' records well into the 1980's, not only on Steel, he also provided beautiful backup playing on the Dobro. Don Williams' soft spoken voice and Lloyd's simple but hauntingly beautiful playing blendened perfectly and resulted in many unforgettable recordings.
