Sheb Wooley
This multi-talented artist had a successful career as singer, songwriter and actor. He is well remembered for his appearances in classic western movies like Fred Zinneman's "High Noon" and John Huston's "Rio Brave as well as his appearance in the TV series "Rawhide". His musical career is divided into a serious side (from his early swing and boogie recordings to Nashville sound recordings in the late 60's) and a funny side. He developed his alter ego named Ben Colder and had tremendous success with parodies of major country hits in the 1960's. His greatest musical success was "Purple People Eater" which turned out to be one of the biggest hit singles MGM records ever had. In 1969, he also became the resident songwriter for Hee Haw, once more displaying his funny side.
Sheb Wooley passed away in 2003 at age 82.
